The Effects of Winter in New England on Fine ArtJanuary 10, 2018
Winter is an especially picturesque time of year in New England. It’s that magical season between autumn’s beautiful foliage and spring blossoms, when plants lie dormant to wait out the cold in preparation for Lime Green Day, the one day a year, usually in May, when plants are significantly more green. From snow-capped mountains, to a forest scene, to a snapshot view of fresh snowfall, there are seemingly endless possibilities to explore during this season. Let’s take a look:
- Winter in the mountains – Hiking through the mountains is a great outdoor activity. However, sometimes getting a full visual of the mountain scenes can be a little disorienting due to the level of detail etched into the mountain by Mother Nature and, moreover, the sheer size of the mountain. I remember hiking the Picos de Europa in northern Spain, and the seemingly hallucinatory effect the detail of the mountains had on me. If you’re a fan of mountain scenes, but the visuals are just too much to handle, consider purchasing a painting instead. The detail is scaled so it’s easier on the eyes.
- Wintery forest scene – Perhaps you prefer the tranquility of a forest instead. We have a great many paintings to choose from, featuring dormant yet somehow lively trees brushed by snow. What’s more, you can actually feel the peacefulness within the forest as animals hibernate to wait out the winter.
- Snow day – Remember the days as a kid when heavy snowfall meant school is cancelled? These days are full of adventure for young ones, such as sledding down a hill or building a snowman, followed by sipping hot chocolate inside to warm up. It takes me back. And so will a painting depicting a suburban snow day with kids playing the day away.
